Description
The Variegated Confederate Jasmine is a fast growing evergreen flowering vine that produces abundant clusters of highly fragrant, star-shaped white flowers from spring through early summer that fill the garden with a delicious, sweet aroma. The fragrance is impossible to describe, but it’s very nice and not overpowering. Due to the brightly variegated white, yellow, and green leaves, the flowers aren’t quite as noticeable on this variety as they are on the green leave varieties, but they are just as fragrant and you get the extra bonus with the variegated foliage that will brighten up your garden year round. Excellent for growing on trellises, pergolas, fences and other structures and also as a spiller in pots, window boxes and hanging baskets.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing quickly to 12 feet or more in height or length and 2 to 4 feet wide, Variegated Confederate Jasmine is ideal for use to climb along the top of fences, on a trellis, on a mailbox, or over an arbor, arch or any other structure that will support this magnificent fragrant vine. It can also be useful as a ground cover for slopes or embankments where it will sprawl and naturalize, or to climb into smaller trees where early flowering is especially noticeable. To better and more often enjoy the wonderful fragrance, make sure to plant this one near windows or outdoor living spaces. Needless to say, the fragrant flowers make this vine a must in sensory gardens!
Suggested Spacing: 3 to 4 feet apart along fences
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Jasmine variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring. That said, this vine grows quickly so you might have to cut it back some before bringing it indoors.
Growing Preferences
Variegated Confederate Jasmine is exceptionally easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. It will tolerate somewhat damp soils but is also quite drought tolerant when established. In warmer climates the vine might appreciate a little break from the afternoon sun. Responds well to pruning or shearing for shaping purposes or to limit size. Avoid pruning prior to the flowering season or you will cut off the flower buds.

I ordered confederate jasmine and it arrived in 3 days in excellent condition! Even after rough handling by the shipping company. Soil wasn’t lost and was still moist. The leaves and stems of the vine were not smashed or broke. Thank you!!————————————Awesome! We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
I’ve ordered plants from various online plant sellers over the years and have luckily never had a bad experience. But I’ve never had as GOOD an experience as with Wilson Brothers. I bought a dwarf apricot tree from last year and was impressed with the quality of the 8-foot tree I received as well as the excellent packing. So, I ordered a Variegated Confederate Jasmine this year expecting a nice, healthy plant. What I received was a huge, very healthy, fully leafed-out vine packed beautifully for shipping. I was so impressed that I took a photo. Even my dog was impressed. Top marks to Wilson Brothers.————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the great review! You dog is awesome! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
So glad I ordered this jasmine when I did because now I see they are out of stock. I had no idea there was a variegated Confederate. I have the traditional Confederate Jasmine that I purchased from Wilson Bros, last year — 2 in fact. They have done so well; I put them blooming on the chain link fence and they are filling out nicely and were in full bloom this past Spring. When I saw that there was a variegated one I had to get it and I am not disappointed. It arrived on time; very well packaged, of a good size and it had some blooms on it — and they smelled great! I will plant this one also on the fence. Thank you Wilson Bros.———————————-Hope you enjoy it for years to come. Thanks for the wonderful review! I was very impressed with the quality of the Jasmine. The planting directions were very precise. My favorite things were how safely they were packed to ship and the note on what to expect the plant to do. Mine is already sprouting new growth. It won’t be long before I can train it to grow on the lattice! —————————- WBG Reply: Hi Ann – Thanks for your review of the Variegated Confederate Jasmine and for your compliments.
