Description
‘Helen Von Stein’ is a low-growing Lamb’s Ear cultivar that produces a dense, silver carpet in the landscape or garden. Kids absolutely love to touch the big leaves that look and feel soft and velvety…like a lamb’s ear! The grey-green foliage contrasts beautifully with plants that have darker foliage. Helen Von Stein has done amazingly well in our hot and humid summer climate here in north-central Georgia. We have plants in our gardens that are over 10 years old and they haven’t melted yet! Â
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 to 6 inches tall and spreading to form a patch 24 or more inches wide, Helen Von Stein Lamb’s Ear is ideal for use as a small-area groundcover or border in landscape and perennial borders and home foundation plantings that have well-drained soil. Excellent to line a path or walkway. A fine addition to container gardens, rock gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Growing Preferences
Helen Von Stein Lamb’s Ear is very easy to grow in a moist to dry well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. Well-drained soil is essential! The plant will rot in constantly soggy or wet soils. Morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves.

It was beautiful when I first got it but I left it in the shade in the same pot,, and now the leaves are down: I transplant it in a bigger pot I hope it respond to the change.—————————————The Lambs Ear likes the sun and if it wasn’t getting watered everday in the small pot in the shade, that’s probably the problem. Repotting is good, needs some sun and regular watering, and it should be fine. Thanks for the review. 🙂 Beth | WBG
These were the nicest, most well packed plants I have ever received from a Nursery through the mail. I Highly recommend Wilson Brothers and will be using them frequently in the future. Pic is a little wet looking because Tropical Storm Bertha just wandered through our place!——————————————We are so glad you are pleased! Beth | WBG
Received in good condition. It’s now 3 weeks and it has doubled in size. Plant it in sun for most of the day, and it will be out of sun for the later afternoon.—————————We are so glad you are pleased! Beth | WBG
